 ”Africa Into Jazz/Jazz Into Africa,” is a concert series which will explore musical conversations between various forms of jazz and African music, curated by Music Professor Michael Veal.

The first concert,  scheduled for Sunday, December 4th at Toad’s Place (doors open at 8:00 pm), will feature Professor Veal’s 12-piece “Afrobeat-Jazz band” Aqua Ife, along with the master guitarist Mamady Kouyate and his band Les Ambassadeurs du Mandeng from Conakry, Guinea. Admission is free for both members of the Yale community and the general public.

Concerts scheduled for the Spring 2017 semester will feature world-class artists such as Randy Weston, Richard Bona, Sam Newsome & Kwaku Kwakye Obeng, and Michele Rosewoman’s New Yor-Uba big band.
