Dear 2017 Bassett Award winners,
We look forward to welcoming you to Yale’s campus in New Haven, Connecticut, on October 13-14, 2017! On this page you will find important information related to your visit and the schedule for your time while at Yale. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 203-432-3233.
Schedule of Events
All Bassett Award winners and their guests are invited to join the faculty, staff, and friends of Yale’s Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration (RITM) for an awards ceremony on Friday, October 13. We have scheduled our event to coincide with Yale’s Multicultural Open House, hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions on Saturday, October 14, so that those interested in Yale College can take this opportunity to explore the campus and its offerings.
October 13, 2017: Bassett Award Ceremony
Bassett Award winners and their guest(s) are invited to join members of the Center’s faculty and staff and others from across Yale’s campus for an awards ceremony, scheduled for 5pm. The ceremony will include remarks by the Center’s Director and other Yale faculty and administrators and the awarding of signed books to each Bassett Award recipient. Dinner will be provided.
October 14, 2017: Undergraduate Admissions’ Multicultural Open House
As a Bassett Award winner, you are invited to participate in Undergraduate Admission’s annual Multicultural Open House. During this day-long event, you’ll have the chance to spend time with current students, faculty members, and other prospective students while learning about student and academic life at Yale, admissions and financial aid, and diversity on campus. Multicultural Open House begins at 8 am and concludes at 5 pm.
Traveling to and from Yale
The RITM Center will cover the travel expenses for each of the Bassett Award winners and one parent or guardian. Additional family members or guardians are absolutely welcome to attend the ceremony but unfortunately, our travel funding can be extended only to the Award winner and one parent or guardian.
The Center will provide housing on Friday (as well as on an additional night, if travel arrangements require it). We have reserved a hotel room block at the Courtyard by Marriott New Haven for the group and, there will be a few additional rooms available within that block for guests.
We recommend that you arrive on campus by mid-afternoon on Friday, October 13, to ensure that you can make the Bassett Award ceremony. The Multicultural Open House will end by 5 pm on Saturday, October 14, but you are welcome to leave early if your schedule requires it. Information about how to get to Yale is available on the Undergraduate Admissions site.
Booking Your Travel
Each Bassett Awardee will be granted a travel credit to cover the cost of transportation (including flights, trains, buses and/or related ground transportation) for themselves and for one parent or guardian. After you complete the intake survey form, those who plan to come for the weekend will receive specific instructions and log-ins for making travel arrangements.
Please note: the travel credit is only eligible for travel booked for the Bassett Award ceremony, in the University’s system so, please follow the instructions carefully. Those planning to travel by train (Amtrak or Metro-North) or by bus (Greyhound or Peter Pan) should contact us directly for assistance in making those arrangements.
