Maria Jose Plascencia
Maria Jose “MJ” Plascencia graduated from the University of Southern California, where she received her BA in American Studies and Ethnicity. She grew up in the border region of Tijuana-Chula Vista, CA. Her research focuses on early 20th century transborder tourism at the U.S.-Mexico border. She is currently a Yale-Smithsonian intern, focusing on the project “Borderlands and American Histories.” This project is a collaboration between the Department of American Studies, the Center for Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration, and the National Museum of American History and is overseen by Steve Pitti (Yale), Laura Barraclough (Yale), and Margaret Salazar-Porzio (NMAH).
