Christina Cano (they/elle) is aMiami-raised researcher, writer, multimedia artist, and Ph.D. student in the Department of Sociology and a Graduate Fellow at the Yale Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration (RITM). Their research examines how the state defines, polices, and prisonizes neighborhoods through the lens of settler colonialism, as well as the spaces created by marginalized communities to organize, remember their histories, reimagine their futures, and challenge racial capitalism. They are also interested in the use of “Latinx” and other gender neutral signifiers amongst diverse Latine communities. Their past work at the UChicago Justice Project examined redistricting, urbanization, race and space, and policing, culminating in the Chicago Redistricting Atlas and papers in Social Problems and The University of Chicago Law Review.
Born to Cuban and Nicaraguan immigrants, Christina graduated from the University of Chicago in 2019 with a Bachelors with Honors in Sociology and Creative Writing.
