Diana Cordova-Cobo, Ph.D., is a first-generation, Latina sociologist and education researcher. She currently works as a Research Fellow at Student Achievement Partners, where she leads research and evaluation activities related to culturally responsive-sustaining education (CRSE) in K-12 schools. In this role, she supports the organization's efforts to collaborate with school districts and agencies across the country who are working to meet the needs of local students and communities. Additionally, Diana has spent the past decade working at the intersection of policy, practice, and research in the New York City metropolitan area, where her work focused on the experiences of Latinx communities with education, housing, segregation, and gentrification. She most recently served as a 2021-22 Research Scholar at the National Research Center on Hispanic Children and Families and as a Research Fellow for the Uncovering Inequality Project at Columbia’s Journalism School.
Prior to entering the research field, she was a middle school social studies teacher in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. The lessons she learned from her students and the experiences they shared with her continue to motivate and inspire the work she does today. Diana holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Education and an M.A. in Social Studies Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College, and a B.A. in Political Science with honors from the University of Florida. Along with her current work at Student Achievement Partners, she sits on the advisory board of Just Education Policy, an institute that aims to foster a community of education policy scholars who can, together, produce impactful research that advances social justice.
