Jorge Banuelos

Jorge (he/they) is a first-year Religious Studies PhD student in the Modernity & Religion sub-field. His scholarly interests include Black radical religious thought, Africana philosophies of religion, Black spiritual cultures, and Black religious skepticisms. Jorge graduated from Carleton College in 2020 having completed a double major in History & Religion and a minor in Africana Studies. While at Carleton they received the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, the Schomburg-Mellon Summer Humanities Institute research fellowship, the David Parks Memorial research fellowship, the Bardwell Smith Prize for Excellence in the Study of Religion, and Distinction in the Religion major. A selection of his work, entitled “Become Black with God!”: A Black Theological Response to afropessimism” is published in Harvard’s MMUF journal.
