Natali Valdez and her book, Weighing the Future

RITM congratulates current faculty fellow, Natali Valdez, on her recent book award. Her book, Weighing the Future: Race, Science and Pregnancy Trials in the Postgenomic Era (University of California Press, 2022), is the first ethnography of ongoing pregnancy trials in the United States and United Kingdom. Weighing the Future was recently awarded the Eileen Basker Memorial Prize from the society of medical anthropology, was a finalist for the Ludwik Fleck Prize in science and technology studies, and was awarded an honorable mention for the 2023 Adele E. Clarke Book Prize in the socio-cultural studies of reproduction.

Professor Valdez is a Presidential Visiting Fellow in Anthropology at Yale for 2023-2024 and is an Assistant Professor at Purdue University.
