richard-velazquez-peralesRichard is a Ph.D. candidate in Latin American History at Yale University. His research focuses on the long Mexican Revolution in Guanajuato, Mexico, with particular attention to land expropriation and the evolution of the collective ejido. Grounded in his terruño of Comonfort, his dissertation explores how indigenous Hñähñu communities mobilized for agrarismo within the predominantly mestizo state of Guanajuato—a region also notable for its prominent role in the Cristero movement. By tracing shifts in revolutionary strategy, political theory, and local praxis across the 20th century, his work offers a nuanced understanding of the ejido’s transformation from the 1930s through the era of the "Mexican Miracle" and into the rise of neoliberalism at the century’s end.
