Jeania Ree Moore is a fifth year PhD candidate in African American Studies and Religious Studies and an ordained United Methodist clergyperson. Inspired by the romance novels she used to steal from her grandmother’s bookshelf, her dissertation examines popular romance as a site for women's moral agency and theological meaning, focusing on the work of Black historical romance writer Beverly Jenkins. Prior to attending Yale for her doctorate, she worked in faith-based legislative advocacy for civil and human rights on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Her favorite part of RITM is the sense of community and support for student work and wellbeing!

Dissertation Writing Fellow, 2024-2026
