Nicholas Vela
Nicholas (he/him) grew up in Salinas, California, and is proudly Mexican American. He is double majoring in Ethnicity, Race, and Migration and Political Science and has a certificate in Spanish. On campus, Nicholas is deeply involved in La Casa’s community, where he has served as a Peer Liaison. He is passionate about community organizing and has found a home in Mecha de Yale, where he has served as Co-Moderator and currently serves as Sueños Coordinator. Alongside other Mecha members, Nicholas helped found Adelante, a youth mentorship program that supports New Haven high school students as they navigate college, career, and other post-graduation pathways. His commitment to public service also extends beyond campus. This past summer, Nicholas was awarded the Presidential Public Service Fellowship, which gave him the opportunity to work at Esperanza Attorneys at Law, where he focused on community education and immigration legal services. Nicholas is immensely excited and proud to serve as a FroCo for Berkeley College this year and to mentor the newest class of Berkeleysians. In his free time, he loves spending time with friends, playing tennis, listening to music, and trying new food spots.
