Taran Samarth is a first-year PhD student in political science. Their interests, broadly construed, focus on the politics of criminalization in the United States and the social movements offering life-affirming, democratic alternatives to the carceral state. Prior to Yale, they graduated from Penn State University in 2023 with degrees in the social sciences, mathematics, and philosophy.
